TEACHING WORKSHOP : The Effectiveness of a Multimedia DVD for Teaching Professional Rendering Techniques to Design Students

ABSTRACT: The effectiveness of a multimedia DVD for teaching professional rendering techniques to industrial design, interior architecture, and architecture bachelor students was evaluated in a workshop during a university bachelor level introductory drawing course. The multimedia DVD instructs student designers in the skillful manual marker and mixed-media rendering techniques used by professional practitioners.
Students followed the exercises in the DVD, learning the techniques demonstrated by applying markers and mixed media in exercises that began with giving tone to simple geometric shapes and increased in difficulty to renderings of products and furniture. Instructors were on hand to supervise and assist. The students’ opinions of this method of learning was surveyed at the end of the workshop. The results show that given the right conditions, using multimedia DVDs for teaching professional rendering techniques to designer students can be effective and successful.

MASTER’S THESIS : An Analytical Survey on Customization at Modular Systems in the Context of Industrial Design

I studied the conflicts between modularity and customization, which are key strategies for making firms more customer-centric. Also, designers might have difficulty relating to the data produced by the research team. It is evident that designers, researchers and users have an influence on each other's work, and that with my technical knowledge and business acumen I can fuse these two different "languages" to facilitate more effective communication.
